Malaysia’s Most Underrated Island | Lang Tengah Island
We don’t blame you if only heard of Redang island, Perhentian island and Langkawi island when it comes to island vacation in Malaysia. But if you don’t know about Lang Tengah island now, you are definitely missing a hidden gem!
Situated between the two bigger, more popular islands (Perhentian island and Redang island), Lang Tengah island is a humbling, less happening tropical paradise which is incredibly beautiful but not known by many. Upon arrival as the boat slowly approaches the pier, the crystal clear sea water with beautiful corals already makes you feel welcomed and you would want to jump in right away. Less Well Known Hidden Gem (Shhhh~ Which Also Means Lesser Crowd)
Redang island and Perhentian island are more well-known among both locals and foreigners alike. Even though Lang Tengah island is less happening and has lesser accommodation choices compared to the two, we think this is what makes Lang Tengah island unique and remains in its pristine form . The beach on the East side is rocky with strong waves hence there is no resort built on this side of the island. West side on the other hand, has calm waves and a beautiful, long stretch of white sandy beach. There are only three resorts available on the island which shares the same beach. During low season, you can literally have the whole beach to yourself! Simply enjoy the peacefulness and soothing sound of waves.
All Inclusive Holiday (Value For Money)
It is not expensive to enjoy your holiday here in Lang Tengah island. Of course you can pay extra for room upgrade and more space, but everything else is value for money if you are buying in package. It is a great destination for budget travelers. We love the facilities and services in the newest resort on the island – Summer Bay Resort. While 3 days 2 nights package is more common among tourists, we highly recommend 4 days 3nights package to enjoy the island fully in slower pace. The cost of 3 days 2 nights package is approximately MYR 900 (USD 225) per person while 4 days 3 nights package is around MYR 1200 (USD 300) per person. This all inclusive holiday package has everything you need!

Amazing Snorkeling & Diving Experience
Lang Tengah island is all about the fifty shades of blue and beautiful marine life. We are super impressed with the amazing house reef. There are almost no currents and visibility is great in the crystal clear water. We were stoked to see the schools of teeming Anchovies and when we were lucky to see baby Reef Sharks, Blue Spotted Stingray and Turtle when snorkeling in the resort’s house reef! We don’t even need to swim far to enjoy the wonderful marine biodiversity.
It is also very thoughtful of the resort to place floating platforms in the middle of the sea. We love sitting there to enjoy the scenery and warm sea breeze. There is also daily inhouse snorkeling excursion included if you are buying a package, where you get to experience a few nice snorkeling spots around the island. Batu Kuching is so far the best snorkeling spot we have ever been in Malaysia, it reminds us of El Nido in Palawan, Philippines (rated as the most beautiful island in the world). You can always book additional excursions from the resort. We didn’t book diving trip when we were there but if you are a scuba diver, you probably wouldn’t want to miss diving in Lang Tengah island!
White Sandy Beach & Crystal Clear Water
Dreaming of a white sandy beach and that island vacation in turquoise blue? You don’t have to travel far to enjoy this. Malaysia’s Lang Tengah island is where you should explore! The long stretch of powdery white sand beach is perfect for strolls, sunbathing and beach sports activities like volleyball. The waters are warm, calm and shallow, excellent for beginner swimmers or go for dip. You wouldn’t get tired so quickly during snorkeling too. If Janet can snorkel for two hours without going back to the beach for a break, you know you can trust our words. The house reef is so beautiful and you must experience it yourself.
Picture Perfect & Epic Sunset
If you don’t know yet, Lang Tengah island is also known as the little Maldives of Peninsular Malaysia. Instagram or postcard worthy landscape photos, stunning portrait photos and Instagram reels – take all you can in Lang Tengah Island. At some spots you may be able to capture photos which people can mistaken it as Maldives and no one will doubt it for sure. The famous Chinese film “Love You You” starred by Eddie Peng and Angelababy was also filmed in Lang Tengah Island.
As the resort is facing the West, every evening (depends on weather) you will be surprised by an epic sunset view. During sunset, the sky is spray-painted with hues of orange and yellow, the other time pink or purple. No matter how it is, you can enjoy the best sunset sitting on the pier, the beach or even in the water.

Unharmed Environment
There is neither roads nor cars available on the island. This means other than sound of boat engines, there is no noise and air pollution. You can do a morning short hike to Batu Kuching (best spot for sunrise), meditate on huge rocks while listening to the soothing sound of waves. Lang Tengah Island is perfect for those seeking for a quiet place for peace of mind, away from the hustle and bustle of cities. As the island preserves the natural habitat well, don’t be surprised to see wildlife in the quiet parts of the island such as Birds, Monitor Lizard, Giant Gecko or Lizard during hiking trips.
At night there are millions of stars, the pier is a perfect spot for star gazing. During the new moon period you are also able to see the glowing planktons near the resort where people call them as “Blue Tears”. The resort also provides free glowing planktons guided tour every night. Lang Tengah island is hands down the best place for a short getaway from the bustling city life to relax and rejuvenate yourself!
