Summer Bay Resort Review | Lang Tengah Island, Malaysia
We are beyond impressed with the natural beauty Malaysia has to offer. Proudly presents Malaysia’s most underrated island paradise – Lang Tengah island in the state of Terengganu! Some people call it as the Maldives of Malaysia. This hidden gem is one of those islands which we will definitely visit again and again. Although there is nothing fancy since it is a small island with limited areas for development, we feel in love with the simplicity and the warm vibe the island exudes. Of course, the crystal clear water with rich marine life as well. We have chosen Summer Bay Resort for our short and sweet 4 days 3 nights stay and we are excited to tell you why this is the best resort to stay in Lang Tengah.
The Most Wanted Resort Rating

Resort is clean and well-maintained. Yearly renovation is in practice. 4. You get four meals a day with great variety of Asian and Western dishes. 5. There is no road and car on the island which means clean air and quiet vacation for you. |

Location
It takes around 45 minutes ferry ride from Merang Jetty to Lang Tengah Island. There are only three resorts on the island and they are all located in West side since East side is rocky, facing rough sea and open ocean. This is why the island has limited areas for development. The good thing is West Side is blessed with long white sand beach stretch. Summer Bay Resort is located at one end of the beach (quiet and more privacy) and their house reef is really beautiful.

Room
Summer Bay Resort offers a variety of Standard and Deluxe rooms with Pool or Garden view. Their rooms are pretty decent – modern amenities with wood elements. Every room comes with Air-Conditioning, mini fridge, vanity and wardrobe. One good thing to know is that they provide water dispenser, means you don’t have to worry about drinking water supply to keep yourself hydrated all the time. Nothing very fancy but worth the money we paid.
Facilities and Environment
Lap Pool. Wanna be away from the salty sea water? An olympic-standard lap pool is here to rescue.
Diving Centre. Book your snorkeling, diving trips, rent equipments, Fancy Floats, Canoe and Kayak here to complete your island gears checklist.
Convenience Store. Best place to replenish your snacks, ice-cream, playcards or your saviour when you forget essentials like toiletries, mosquito repellants or even swimsuit.
Beach Lounge Chairs. First come first served. Be early to secure a spot!
Cabana. Perfect for practicing Yoga and afternoon nap, surrounding by greeneries.
Hammock. Swing your problems away while lazing on a hammock, listening to the soothing sound of waves.
Food and Beverages
Although we are not picky when it comes to food, we always make sure we have access to decent food during a vacation. Definition of a perfect island life – Happy Tummy, Happy Us.
Main Restaurant. Apparently Summer Bay Resort didn’t disappoint us. We bought an all inclusive package which includes four daily meals – Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea and Dinner. Every night they will have different menus (Chinese Hotpot, Western or Asian Food).
Sunset Bar. Craving for a drink and chill vibes during the evening or at night? This is the best place to hang out.
Seaview Cafe. Everyone can easily access to this beach cafe to grab quick bites and drinks. It is located on the beach.
Mamak Restaurant. We are amazed by this extra food outlet the resort offers. You can easily find Local favourites like Mee Goreng (Stir-fried Noodles) or Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) here. Malaysians really can’t get enough of Mamak!
Activities
Diving, Snorkeling & Island Hopping. The best thing about Summer Bay Resort is definitely their incredible house reef. Everyday we spotted something different while saying Hi to our old school of fish friends since day one. The are almost no currents – suitable for beginners. There is also daily inhouse snorkeling excursion included if you are buying a package, where you get to experience a few nice snorkeling spots around the island. You can always book additional excursions from the resort. We didn’t book diving trip when we were there but if you are a scuba diver, you probably wouldn’t want to miss diving in Lang Tengah island! Fancy Floats, Canoe and Kayak rentals are available as well with extra charge – no dull moment on the island.
Jungle Trekking
You can do a morning short hike to Batu Kuching (best spot for sunrise), meditate on huge rocks while listening to the soothing sound of waves. Lang Tengah Island is perfect for those seeking for a quiet place for peace of mind, away from the hustle and bustle of cities. As the island preserves the natural habitat well, don’t be surprised to see wildlife in the quiet parts of the island such as Birds, Monitor Lizard, Giant Gecko or Lizard during hiking trips.
Glowing Planktons “Blue Tears” Tour
Have you heard of the blue-dotted creatures along the beach? They are real, for real – these bioluminescent planktons glow in bright blue. One thing to note is that magical Blue Tears are not available all the time. They are highly affected by light pollution and unpleasant weather.
