An Underrated Destination in the Philippines | Legazpi City
If you think Boracay, Cebu and Palawan are what Philippines is all about, you definitely need to read this post. Although the Philippine archipelago is famous with its white sand beach and turquoise sea, there are many other scenic spots as well as a variety of activities you can indulge in.
To those who want to visit somewhere different while travelling in Philippines, we are proud to introduce Legazpi City, a guaranteed one of a kind travel experience!
About Legazpi City
Legazpi city is located on the Philippine island of Luzon, 332 km southeast of Manila. It is the capital of the Albay province and the administrative center of the Bicol region. From postcard mountain view to adventure, history, shopping to eating, Legazpi city has got you covered for sure.
We are not even kidding when we say it took us almost 12 hours to reach the city from Manila. It was mainly because of the traffic, toilet and meal breaks. Nevertheless, a normal journey will take around 10 hours too. Taking a domestic flight will save a lot of time and energy.
What is famous in Legazpi City
Mayon Volcano
Being one of the world’s most active volcanoes, Mayon Volcano is the most iconic landmark of Legazpi City. It is also well-known for its perfect conical shape just like Mount Fuji. The mountain rises 2462 m and has steep upper slopes capped by a small summit crater. It is indeed a painting that comes to life with flat plains, rice fields, creeks, and rivers formed the beautiful mountain base. With this photogenic, gorgeous mountain as a city backdrop where you can take perfect pictures from anywhere, what more can you ask for?
Adventurous Activities
Legazpi city is known as the city of fun and adventure, very much in line with Philippines’ tourism campaign slogan: It’s More Fun in the Philippines. A trip to Legazpi city will never be complete without the ATV ride to Mayon Volcano, an adventure at its finest. There are different routes with different levels of difficulty and we can’t recommend the summit trail enough. You will only be 3 km away from the peak of Mayon Volcano. For those super adventurous souls, take the 2 days 1 night challenge to reach the crater.
Another activity you must try is ziplining in Lignon Hill Nature Park. Glide above green plains and vegetation landscape on a 320 meters zipline and your reward? An incredible view of Mayon Volcano.
Chilli (Sili)
Legazpi city is in Bicol region which is famous for its coconut milk and chilli as elements in dishes. The food scene has so much excitement to offer. As Malaysians, we are confident about our tolerance to spicy food but their chilli is completely next level! One thing you must try is the Chilli (or locals call it as Sili) ice-cream by 1st Colonial Grill.
Historical Attractions
You will have a chance to visit Cagsawa Ruins, Franciscan church, the Spanish pier and the 230-year old Daraga Church in Legazpi city. All these historical sites have so much to tell about how the city develops into how it is today.
Want to visit more off the beaten destination in Philippines? You will like Zambales as much as we do.
